Wendl & Lung was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1910 by piano builders Johann Wendl and Stefan Lung. Lung’s daughter, Stefanie Lung Veletzky, studied piano making and became a master piano builder, an extraordinary achievement for a woman at that time. Stefanie eventually took over the business, and expanded it with the help of her husband, Anton Veletzky. Anton did not survive World War II, and Stefanie’s son, Alexander Veletzky, himself a well-known master piano builder, joined his mother in operating the company until it closed in 1956. There were a number of attempts by the Veletzky family to revive the company over the next 45 years. Wendl & Lung pianos were sold primarily in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2003, Peter Veletzsky, great-grandson of the founder, and a business partner, began a cooperative arrangement with Chinese manufacturer Hailun to develop and build pianos in a separate workshop within the Hailun factory, for distribution under the Wendl & Lung name. Leading piano designers from around the world also contributed to these new piano designs, and some of these models also eventually became part of the Hailun piano line. Peter Veletzky still oversees all production of Wendl & Lung pianos at the Hailun factory.

Warranty: 15 years, parts and labor, transferable to a future owner; and lifetime of the original purchaser for the action parts, cast-iron plate, and metal case hardware parts.
