SAUTER is considered the oldest continuously producing piano manufacturer in the world. In Spaichingen, on the edge of the Black Forest, uprights and grand pianos are still crafted by hand. The company combines traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the art piano-building technology and numerous in-house innovations. Alongside touch and tone, design has always been a central focus—an ambition elevated to a new level through the collaboration with Peter Maly three decades ago.

Peter Maly is one of Germany’s most influential designers and interior architects. His work has received multiple awards and has been exhibited internationally. His design philosophy is defined by a clear, reduced formal language, paired with high functionality and exceptional craftsmanship. Over the past 30 years, he has created several exclusive grand and upright piano models for SAUTER, some of which have long since become modern classics.

With the new ALEA model, this success story is consistently carried forward. ALEA combines the elegance of geometric design with the demands of contemporary living spaces. Its striking square frieze appears precise, iconic, and timeless, giving the piano a refined yet expressive aesthetic. Squares have long played a defining role in Maly’s work—just as they did in the designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Josef Ho mann, who appreciated this balanced geometric form.

The “SAUTER designed by Peter Maly” collection exemplifies the fusion of tradition and innovation, musical excellence and aesthetic sophistication. Together with 100% Made in Germany quality, traditional craftsmanship, and the distinctive SAUTER sound, it forms a key unique selling point for the brand—one that continues to inspire design-oriented piano enthusiasts around the world.
