Beautiful Sohmer mahogany grand, very ornate
This is Sohmer's largest piano, from the peak of its manufacturing history. Known as the Ice Cream cone piano because of the distinctive leg shape.
My dad and I rebuilt and refinished it in 2010. It has new German hammers, all new strings, pins, keytops, and damper felt. It has been carefully refinished with hand-rubbed oil. It has a custom-made matching bench, very heavy-duty.
The action and keys have been professionally regulated and the hammers have been voiced to medium brightness.
I replaced the high-impact parts such as hammer heads, keytops and damper felts. I carefully examined the action parts and internal structure were carefully examined, and found to be solid, not needing to be replaced. The soundboard and ribs and bridges are still solid, so the piano has excellent sustain and powerful tone quality
I installed a PitchLok TouchRail, so the touch weight is adjustable, from 55 grams to 70 grams.
It's hard to capture the visual impact of this piano in any number of photos, and even eight barely give the idea. I have a lot more pictures, including before the rebuild. Email and ask.
I can also assist in delivering it.
