1881 Steinway & Sons Model D Rosewood Grand Piano
The piano was purchased and owned by us since June 1987. Thomas Annunziata of European Art Piano Co. in Oakland Park professionally appraised the piano for replacement value of $125,000. Mr.Annunziata worked for steinway for 35 years. Since owning our antique piano we have refinished the rosewood and the solid handcarved rosewood legs to a hand rubbed satin lacquer finish. The rebuilding of the piano included strings, pins, and dampers. The plate and soundboard were both in excellent condition, however they were sanded, primed, and finished. The ivory keys were sand blasted. The action was remanufactured. New Renner hammers, Shanks, Flanges and new Steinway wippens were installed. The work was completed by a third generation piano technician located in Deerfield Beach, Master Piano Craft. In 1987 I contacted Steinway & Sons in New York by letter with the serial number of the piano to learn the history of the piano. I was pleasantly surprised to know my piano was manufactured in New York in 1881 and delivered to Mrs. H.T. Burroughs, Brooklyn,N.Y. on November 15, 1881.
